Cabin Fever IV

He had a reputation for being quite fast, and I'm not sure if he started it himself or if the others who came with him on the stagecoach brought it with them from St. Louis, but that's what killed him. Looking back I doubt if he started it, or if he did it was something he did drunkenly or angrily and without thinking, because Sally said she saw him right before it happened and he was miserable and trying to get out of town. It would have been much better if there was someone who had seen him shoot, but it was all hearsay and so everyone was curious and it got bad. It was only a week after he'd come in and he had found a job and seemed like a decent person although I never talked to him only he had the reputation. Sally was there working the tables that night and he just quietly wanted a bottle to take home, that's how bad it had become, and asked her if she knew of anyone willing to part with a horse so he could get out of town. James Lankman saw him then and it was over pretty fast after that. Sally said the reputation was good, but it was James Lankman.
